Quick Tips – Buy it or Make it

save money

Chicken Broth –
Whenever you eat anything with chicken or turkey bones, always set the bones aside instead of throwing them away. Toss them in a pot, cover with water and simmer lightly for a few hours. When 2-3 hours has passed, remove the bones with a strainer and you have homemade chicken broth.
Why this is worth it:
  1. It’s free. You have the bones, you were going to throw them away. Why not use them?
  2. It’s so much better for you! Look at the label on store bought chicken broth. It’s mostly sodium and preservatives. Just stick to what you need: the chicken and the water.
  3. It keeps very well in the freezer or if you can it.
  4. If you want to make chicken stock, toss in celery, carrots, onions and fresh herbs.
